Solutions

VSCA is pioneering new ways of producing light metals, particularly aluminium and titanium. Three inventions form the basis of VSCA's commercial activities:

- Inert Anodes for Al Electrolysis

- Wettable Cathodes for Al Electrolysis

- Titanium Processing

Inert Anodes for Al Electrolysis

A new anode material has been developed that survives extreme corrosion in molten cryolite under real smelter conditions at 960°C. Most importantly, the anode releases oxygen gas to the atmosphere, instead of carbon dioxide CO  (patents pending)

Wettable Cathodes for Al Electrolysis

A new cathode material has been developed that survives molten aluminium corrosion at 960°C for long durations and is superbly well wetted by the liquid aluminium. This allows the anode-pad distance to be reduced in a smelter, lowering the cell's resistance, and thus saving electricity and, again, CO2  emissions (patents pending)

Titanium Processing

A new metallurgical process has also been conceived and developed that allows titanium metal to be won from the ore, without the need for toxic TiCl4 or the Kroll process. Importantly, Ti alloys can be made directly, and at lower cost than conventional routes (patents pending)
